DANCE TO FITNESS™ - THE 8 WEEK PROGRAM
Dance to Fitness™ is a weekly dance fitness class which combines faith based activities with high energy dance to Christian Latin and International Music to create a workout that would really move you Spirit, Soul and Body in a positive and encouraging atmosphere. The routines are feature interval training where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Designed for everyone, every shape and age; dance and shake off up to 1000 calories per hour. Faith based activities include prayer, exercises that engage the mind and scriptural declarations over the body. Before participants know it, they’re burning calories, losing weight; getting fit and their energy levels are soaring! It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students. As we know from 1 Corinthians 3:16, as believers we are God’s temple, and God’s Spirit dwells in us. It is important to emphasize living healthy and fit in the Christian community as well. We often neglect our physical health and well-being by not exercising and making poor food choices. It seems that these habits can be so embedded into our “food culture” that no one even raises an eyebrow at the huge amount of fried foods, fatty barbequed meats, cakes, cookies and pies that are a staple of event (from picnics to funerals!). God loves us as we are, but He is pleased when we make an effort to keep our temples healthy! I believe that the Dance to Fitness™ classes can be an effective means to help the Body of Christ begin to adapt health and fitness practices in addition to the spiritual counsel and the uplifting messages that we receive from the church so that they can begin to experience holistic health and wellness. All exercisers from beginner to advanced will enjoy the benefits of the Dance to Fitness™ class, including stress relief, improved cardiovascular health, improvement in muscle tone, increased energy and (everyone’s favorite--) weight loss. They will burn anywhere from 300-800 calories per hour depending on the intensity at which it is performed. Choreography modifications are offered throughout the class to ensure that each participant get an effective workout. A typical Dance to Fitness™ class is an hour long, but can be modified depending on the fitness level of the participants. The following is a model of what the Dance to Fitness™ classes would offer: 1. Sign In (5-10 min. before class starts) 2. Welcome/Intro (1 min.) 3. Group Prayer/ Health Declarations (5 min.) 4. Warm-up (5-7 min.) 5. ZUMBA cardio dance interval training--the bulk of the class (40 min.) 6. Cool down (5-10 min.) The Dance to Fitness™ class will span an 8 week period. The workout session can be held once or twice a week Dance to Fitness™ can also be used as an outreach to the community. I encourage this as a way of reaching out to your church neighborhood and a great way of letting them know about your church. Since most people are already familiar with the Zumba part of it. It would be an attraction to draw people even the unchurched to the event. I will also inform my fitness community about the classes and invite them to attend. Since the classes will be held at your church premises, prior to the class starting, please have a room or space cleared up to accommodate the class size. I would also need to be able plug an MP3 player (which I will provide) into a sound system provided by the church. In addition, class participants are required to sign a waiver before their first class, which simply states that the instructor, facility, organization and It’s Time Fitness are not liable for any injuries or health problems that may occur during or as a result of participation.
