Getting Back to Fitness? You may be a newbie or once physically fit but you got off track, nevertheless it’s a good thing that you are thinking about getting back in shape.

You are taking one of the most important steps which is finding out what you need to do to get back in shape so you can begin to look good and feel good or better still look fit and fabulous.

First step to getting started with fitness is getting clear on your “WHY?” Why are you taking out the time at this point in your life to get back in shape and why is it important that you do it now?

It is important to know this because it will keep you going on days you want to slack off or quit. I suggest writing it out in a journal or a place you have easy access to. To make this exercise effective, keep asking yourself “why am I deciding to get back in shape now?” Write each answer down, stop asking this particular question till you get to a point when you no longer have answers. You may need to do this over a period of days.

Next step is to know your health numbers - Healthy weight, BMI, Blood Pressure, cholesterol levels, waist size. Record the numbers and the date. This would help you keep track of your progress. Take time to celebrate as you see the numbers change for good.

Loving Yourself

2/16/2014

Love is in the air, if you have been to the stores lately or on social media, you may have noticed. You may have been spending some quality time with your loved ones because Valentine's Day was few days ago.
Isn’t that so typical that we spend time loving so many people but forget one really important person, YOU!

You see I’ve realized that I can't properly love other people if I don’t pay attention to what going on with me.
Even the bible says to love your neighbor as you love yourself. So Yes, I’ve been taking some time to love myself so that I can come back refresh and rejuvenated to serve others. How about you? Will you join me on this love quest?

“Loving yourself” should be something you do occasionally. Don’t let your love tank run dry before you realize you need a refill. You may have experienced what happens when you allow the gas in your car tank get close to empty. The red light comes on and it becomes an emergency situation.

In order to avoid an emergency situation, I encourage you to spend some time today to love yourself. The first step is to create some “Me Time” to love yourself. I share the other steps in the video below.
I talk about 6 steps to take now to begin to love yourself.
1.      Schedule a “Me Time”.
2.      Write 3 things you want to achieve in this year.
3.      What are those struggles that are preventing me from getting to my desired goals?
4.      What actions can I begin to take right now to stop the self-sabotaging habits?
5.      Take Action by taking small steps towards achieving your goal.
6.      Celebrate Your Success – Big or Small.
Lupita Nyong'o won the Oscar for best supporting actress at the 2014 Academy Awards. Young, talented and successful as she has become, she had her struggles coming up the ladder of success.
Lupita gave a speech at the Annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon. Her speech was emotional, moving and inspirational. She talked about her struggles growing up learning to loving herself the way God created her. Watch her inspiring video as she shares her story.

Importance of Taking Care of Yourself

Let’s first take a look at the attributes of love from I Cor 13: 4-8.

4 Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.
5 It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].
6 It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.
7 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].
8 Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy ([a]the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].

Today I’ll be sharing about the importance of loving yourself by taking care of yourself because there is only one “YOU”.

The bible also talks extensively about loving other people. Please take some time to read 1 John 4:7-21.

Most times when we use the word love, we often use it as an express our affection to God and man. By man, I mean other people but as I was driving to work yesterday and listening to a preaching CD by Joyce Meyer which talked about the importance of taking care of ourselves. I realized there’s one person I often neglect to talk about loving, which is myself.

So I realized that love is 2 dimensional, Loving God first because he first loved us (1 jn 4:19) and loving what God created (which includes our other people, me and other things he created).

Matthew 22:35-40 (NKJV)
34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

You’ll be reading about loving yourself by taking care of yourself. Not in the context of being selfish or drawing too much attention to yourself but having a balance between loving God, loving the things he created and remembering to take care of you.

Here are some questions to ponder on…
